I think I've always been a photographer. I may not have always had a camera, but somehow when I think back over the years that I didn't take pictures, something in me knew I should have been. I remember when I was in high school, I took an art class where we had to take some pictures and develop them. I don't remember too much about the class, but I do remember really enjoying the class. Then for, twenty years while I was in the navy and for the few fifteen years of being married to Suzanne, I didn't really take any pictures. We owned a few cameras during that time frame, but it wasn't a priority for me. Then Suzanne got pregnant in 2004.
I realized that I was going to be the photographer for the family, and being the ever-gadget guy, I knew I needed a better camera than a standard point-and-shoot. I couldn't expain to anyone at that point *WHY* am SLR was *BETTER* than a point and shoot, but it was more expensive, right? So it must be better. Well, thankfully it was better. After Sarah was born on December 16th, 2004, it became a rare event to actualy sight Skip in the wild without his camera. I was always looking for a different way to pose her, Suzanne, Othello (our cat), or to take pictures with friends in San Diego. I was hooked. There was no stopping me now.
After moving here, I found the Virginia Beach Photography Club in January of 2007. What a friendly, outgoing group of people! I think I made the most of that year with you, and enjoyed the many outings, impromptu photo-shoots, and meetings over that year. I have become close friends to several of you, and I am very proud of that. What's more, I continue to learn more about photography each time I meet with you, and I am most appreciative of that. This past year I started a professional portrait business, Tidewater Photography, and quite honestly, I don't think it would have happened without the support of several of the club members. That mentorship, coupled with the knowledge that I gain from being a member, has paid great dividends to me in that my photography has improved dramatically over the course of this last year. I owe it all to you.
Thanks.
